Senior Scientist – Textile Formulation & Applications
Location: Indianapolis, United States (with travel to partner mills, application labs, and toll formulators)
Employment Type: Full‑Time, On‑site
Compensation: ~$98,000 – $175,000 / year (estimated)
Position Overview
An experienced Ph.D.-level scientist or engineer is sought to lead the formulation, application, and industrial scaling of advanced bioceramic technology for performance apparel and commercial textiles. This role bridges materials science and formulation chemistry with industrial textile finishing and manufacturing.
Core Responsibilities Formulate and scale aqueous binder/finishing systems with functional inorganic & bioceramic micro/nanoparticles.
Lead commercial finishing trials (pad‑dry‑cure, screen printing, spray application).
Collaborate with textile chemical suppliers, toll formulators, and partner mills to optimize formulations, dispersion stability, rheology, and processing.
Establish and execute textile testing protocols (AATCC & ISO standards).
Conduct on‑site troubleshooting, process optimization, and scale‑up at partner facilities.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Textile Chemistry, Textile Science, Textile Engineering, Fiber Science, Polymer Science/Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
3–5+ years of hands‑on experience in textile finishing, textile chemical suppliers, or industrial application labs.
Expertise in binder/particle dispersion chemistry, crosslinkers, wetting agents, and textile finishing processes.
Experience with AATCC/ISO textile testing and commercial‑scale textile processing.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with masterbatch compounding, filament extrusion, or melt spinning of functional fibers.
Expertise in rheological control and stabilization of particulate suspensions.
Experience working with major textile chemical suppliers and finishing mills.
