Position Overview
A specialty‑focused pharmacy is seeking an experienced Pharmacy Manager / Pharmacist‑in‑Charge (PIC) to lead clinical operations, regulatory compliance, and patient‑centered specialty pharmacy services. This role is ideal for a pharmacist with strong leadership experience, deep knowledge of specialty medications, and a passion for improving patient access to complex therapies. Relocation assistance and a sign‑on bonus are available.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal pharmacy laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and accreditation standards.
Serve as the designated Pharmacist‑in‑Charge, overseeing licensure, controlled substances, and regulatory inspections.
Maintain and enforce policies for prescription processing, drug storage, security, and documentation.
Lead audits, maintain records, and coordinate responses for regulatory bodies.
- Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily pharmacy operations to ensure accurate dispensing, patient safety, and adherence to clinical protocols.
Supervise, train, and mentor pharmacists, technicians, and support staff.
Manage inventory, including procurement, temperature‑sensitive drug handling, and recall processes.
Investigate and resolve medication incidents with proper documentation and continuous quality improvement.
- Clinical & Patient Support
- Act as the pharmacy’s clinical expert for patient counseling, therapeutic substitution, and prior authorization reviews.
Collaborate with providers and clinic teams to optimize patient outcomes and improve medication access.
Navigate specialty medication benefits, prior authorizations, financial assistance programs, and appeals.
Support coordinated care for specialty patients, particularly in oncology and other complex therapeutic areas.
- Strategic & Workflow Development
- Participate in strategic planning for pharmacy growth and service expansion.
Build and refine workflows and processes in a dynamic, evolving environment.
Serve as the workflow expert from prescription receipt through dispensing.
- About You
- Leadership experience in a pharmacy setting; PIC experience preferred.
Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with patients, providers, and care teams.
Experience with specialty medications, especially oncology.
Skilled in benefits investigation, prior authorization, and financial assistance navigation.
Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, start‑up‑like environment.
Proficient with pharmacy software systems (QS1, ComputerRx, PioneerRx, WAM).
Bonus: Experience with EMRs (Epic, Cerner, NextGen) or specialty systems (Therigy, Asembia1, ScriptMed).
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and committed to quality patient care.
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent degree.
Active, unrestricted Texas pharmacist license, eligible to serve as PIC.
